It's not SCA, but what the hey it's still my big ugly mug! Hopefully I can get some shots at Pennsic to replace this picture. I'm holding my weapon of choice, the Gothic flanged mace (armour by me.)
Added pictures so I have some content, from left to right:
Beautiful wife Julia (redhead) and NC renn Queen, slumming with the Landsknecht(!) and wacking people!
see you all at practice!
0612 1833 -- Steve, see what you can beg, borrow or steal to wear to practices, and get someone, Max, Jurgen, Jason, to work with you to get some inculcation into SCA combat. You can get your armor together in the interim between now and the 18th (I think that's Novice Tourney) and get enough to try and authorized. - Steve
Hey Steve, I'll try to borrow Ice Falcon Legs and Arms from Willy, lemme ask him this weekend. I'm looking to make the July 12th event for aurthorization. How's your Mom?
Dished a besagew for his grace, Baron Jurgen, but I fear it might not be etched for a while ...
Armour Progress: 6/12/08, deadline July 11th, ruh roh ...
Helm: Needs aventail, I've gone insane and started to weld a stainless aventail. Must pad interior but need to devise a removable/washable liner. Chest: Cut out a 16 gauge Burgundian (Italian export) style full front and back. Not enough time to finish for pennsic. Created a 1/8 inch Kydex breast and back that will be covered in cotton velvet. Need to glue and strap, looks like real armour! Arms: Cut out 16 guage lames and cops, formed lames. Need to research leather and stuff Legs: Cut out cops and lames. Might buy legs to save time if online deal goes through. Got Mueller knee pads Hands: Hrmmm. First attempt with 16 gauge SS pattern is no good. Want to make nice demi's. Not enough time, ordered some from Torvaldr. Throat: Cut 18 SS guage gorget that will have a leather collar. Need to see about padding Shins: Already have SS, completed Kydex set for pratice fighting. Sword: Finsihed, but now it's been suggested to go to 40 inches total length. I'm use to closing will have to consider. Won't hurt to have two weapons. Need Rattan! Addined LP thrusting tip. Shield: Cut and curved two 22x33 0.09 6062 AL blanks (old alloy) and have a basket from Mark (Clang.) Need to edge, paint and strap. Gambeson: Have awsome pattern from good friend, Master Gambeson maker Arnoud (http://pages.videotron.com/gambison/) Ordered Black hemp from Hempbasics (very good product), bought linen and wool batting from G-Street fabrics. Elbows: Recieved Mueller elbow pads. Courtsey zone: Ordered a cup and shorts from nuttybuddy.com! You needed to know that didn't you? Funny site, each cup size has a macho name. Good quality product
6/25/08 Diedrich - I understand your interest in armour, but the armour is a means and not the end. The continuous progression of your fighting in our martial art is the end. We strongly suggest you lower the focus on the armour a little and increase the focus on the fighting. The armour will happen, particularly as your love of and skill at fighting develop. That said, we are fantastically glad you are so interested in armour and working so hard on it, but nice or great armour on a horrible fighter is just wrong... so let's focus on your fighting so we make sure that sin doesn't happen! We need you to identify what is and isn't working for you in the fighting area and in the training regime (not so much in the armour) -- Max
